 The Kindergarten Curriculum Program
We offer a traditional Montessori Kindergarten Classroom setting in which children ages 3 thru 6 years of age work together in the Montessori Environment.
Language – Reading and Writing
By the end of Kindergarten, students will be able to:
· Identify favorite books and retell the stories in their own words and make predictions. (anticipating what will happen next)
· Make connections between the student’s own experiences and those of storybooks characters
· Write using a variety of tools and media (pencil, crayons, paper, computer, chalk, colored pencil etc.)
· Write simple sentences in paragraph form, using familiar words, phonetic spelling etc.
· Blending sounds
· Rhyming words
· Can put a story in sequence
· Identify words and names familiar to them (parents name, street name etc.)
· Have an introduction to cursive writing
Language – Speaking and Listening
· Recognize words that consist of beginning, middle and final sounds and identify letters representing sounds
· Speaks in complete sentences, using proper grammer
· Recites simple poems, stories and rhymes
· Can describe emotions and feeling
· Begin to distinguish between imaginary and the real
Mathematics
· Counts to 1000
· Can identify any number on the chain from 1 to 1000
· Counts by 5’s
· Skip counts
· Using the bead material, understands and solves problems of both static and dynamic addition and subtraction
· Has begun to complete addition and subtraction problems on paper in the abstract form
· Use simple measurement terms correctly, tall/short, big/small, empty/full, tomorrow/today, morning/afternoon/evening etc.
· Identifies quantities of money
· Can use a tape measure
· Can identify up to 10 geometric shapes, three demensional (cube, cone, cylinder, square based pyramid etc.)
· Can identify 2 deminsional shapes (square, rhombus, trapezoid)
· Knows the names of geometric shapes (pentagon, hexagon, octagon etc.)
· Recognizes math symbols = + - x /
· Can tell time
Science
· Understanding of the 5 Senses
· Understanding of emotions, self, others etc.
· Recognize good hygiene and health
· Understands the difference between seasons
· Understands the concept of time
· Develop a range of scientific skills and abilities through a range of hands-on activities

Art
o Portray self in drawings
o Express ideas and feelings through a variety of media and experiences including pictures, sculptures, collages, painting, modeling, gluing and scissor work
Physical Development
o Participate willingly in creative movement, dance and other physical activities
o Use different types of physical equipment with increased confidence and dexterity (climbers, balls etc.)
o Hop, skip, jump, walk a balance beam with ease
o Use a hula hoop and jump rope independently
o Demonstrate balance, ease, and flexibility in movement and spatial awareness when climbing stairs and using the playground
o Can color, cut, glue
o Thread a needle and perform sewing with yarn and sometimes thread
Emotional and Social Education
o Recognize personal strengths and accomplishments, identify and talk about their own interests and preferences, demonstrate self reliance (dress themselves, know personal information,) and self control
o Know about nutritious foods, practice appropriate hygiene, and identify safe and unsafe situations, materials and equipment
o Talk about and identify family members and their roles and other people who help them, know personal information about themselves, learn appropriate behaviors and manners.
